Indiesew Spring/Summer Collection 2017

The new Indiesew Spring/Summer Collection is here – and as you might know, that means you can buy a curated collection of five (or three) patterns as a bundle, saving up to 25% of the price. Nice, right? This year’s collection consists of Allie’s own design, the Highlands Wrap Dress, the very popular Charleston Dress from Hey June, the new Hampton Jean Jacket from Alina Design & Co., the Minttu Top by Named Patterns and the Ogden Cami by True Bias.

Once again Allie was kind enough to invite me to join the blog tour, and I chose to show you my Highlands Dress, which I tested, too. The Highlands Dress is a woven wrap dress with high slits at the sides and a modest V-neck. It comes with short sleeves or sleeveless and you can choose to make a midi-length dress or a full-length dress. Both sides of the wrap are secured by buttons, so there’s no danger of losing your dress in the middle of the grocery store.

My favourite part of this dress might be the beautiful mitred corners, the wide facings and the wide hem – it gives the dress such a luxurious feeling! I also like the darts in the back – they prevent the dress from bunching up above the waist.

As you can see, I chose to make the version with sleeves, but I shortened the sleeves a little. I also moved the bust darts down and lengthened the skirt a couple of inches above the side slit. I’m very pleased with the height of the slits, I don’t feel too exposed while walking. Although there were a few very windy pics among my 200+ pics that were most definitely not appropriate for this blog! Good for me that I can take my pics far away from spectators…

The pattern calls for very drapey fabrics, but I didn’t listen and chose a lawn. And I have to say that I regret it a little. The lawn was easy to work with and I love the print (it’s from Fabric Godmother), but I just love how well the tencel dress Allie made for the photo shoot drapes – it looks gorgeous in every way. And I’m just not that much in love with the way my cotton lawn dress behaves, unfortunately. I know for a fact that that’s only because of the fabric, not because of the pattern itself. But I did you all a good deed – look at my dress and decide if you’ll be happy with this look, before you choose a stiffer fabric.

I also made a Highlands Top, which I’ll share with you another time. I chose a linen for the top and the stiffer fabric works absolutely beautiful for the top! But more on that another time.

I didn’t sew any of the other patterns from the Spring/Summer Collection, since I love showing a whole look, like for example for the last Fall/Winter Collection. But I did make two Charleston Dresses before, and I just have to share my favourite pic of my Charleston circle skirt hack with you:

The Spring/Summer Collection 2017 Blog Tour is nearly over, but don’t forget to check out the amazing makes made by the other ladies participating in the blog tour! Do you have a favourite? I have to say that I’m madly in love with Leslie’s Nani Iro Highlands Dress!

– I received the patterns of this collection and a gift card, as did I for testing the Highlands Wrap Dress. However, all opinions are, as always, my own. This blog post is linked to the German blogger party RUMS. –
